ORPHANGE
Pinnawala, Visit the Elephant Orphanage, the foster – home
of elephants of different age and size feeding, bathing, playing
together and even mating. These have been found injured or left
abandoned in the wilderness. There are even little baby calves born
in captivity. |

Visit a spice garden at mavanella which grows spices and herbs used
for Sri Lankan cuisine and medication. Spices of Sri Lanka attracted
the early sea faring merchants who made the long voyages to purchase

GARDEN
En-route visit the Botanical Garden Peradeniya. Which was a pleasure
garden of a Kandyan King of the 16th Century and later made in to
a Botanical Garden during the British regime. This gardens, one
of the best in Asia is a place of beauty and site for bird watchers. |

03 - KANDY / NUWARA ELIYA ( Train Journey ) |

OF THE TOOTH RELIC.
Next Visit the Temple of the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha. This
temple, the most important one for The Sri Lankan Buddhists. It
was built in the 16th Century A.D. solely for the purpose of housing
the tooth relic.

will met by the chauffer guide at "Nanu Oya" Station and
transferred to the Hotel at Nuwara Eliya to continue with tour. |
Nuwara
Eliya, the misty city is located over 6000 feet above sea level.
The drive will be through refreshing Tea Plantations covering the

Visit a Tea Plantation and a Tea Factory en route. Sri Lanka being
famous for its “Ceylon Tea” adding cheer to many the
world over for more than a century.
Arrive
in Nuwara Eliya to be greeted by the fresh wintry atmosphere. Observe
the well preserved colonial architecture of bungalows that were
the homes of Lords, Governor’s and Planters who pioneered
the “ Ceylon Tea” drive.( Nuwara Eliya is also known
as “Little England”)

NUWARA
ELIYA CITY TOUR
Drive
through the little town of Nuwara Eliya observing the well-maintained
buildings of colonial Architecture. Visit the busy market where
the tea plantation workers rush in and out with their days provisions.
Visit the lake Gregory built for generating power during the British
Colonial age but now a feature that adds beauty to the city.

AMMAN TEMPLE
This Temple considered as one of the oldest is said to mark the
spot where Ravana held the queen Sita captive, The streamlet that
flows by the rock on which the Temple stands on is supposed to be
where the queen Sita bathed. Although the story of Rama Sita and
Ravana is a legendary epic poem, the evidence such as this sparks
off another dimension to imagination. As a Temple much revered,
many stop by and step into invoke blessings and favour from the

KITULGALA
Kitulgala is little village on one of the routes between Colombo
and Nuwara Eliya. The name Kitulgala derived from the word KITUL
(fish tail palm) trees that grow in abundance in these parts. The
Kelani River that flows through Kitulgala does not only beautifully
the village but also attracts tourists for the white water rafting
that has become so popular in it. The most important scene of blasting
the bridge and train in the famous film “ The Bridge on the
River Kwai” was also filmed at Kitulgala and the film site
is also a site visited by many tourists. Bandara Kele a patch of
nature reserve that has become very popular with bird watchers and
Nature lovers. |

TURTLE
HATCHERY
Projects have been launched to conserve the population of turtles
that are reaching extinction and such projects are found along the
southern coast of Sri Lanka where turtles come as hop to lay their
eggs. The turtle digs a hole on the Beach, Lais hers eggs and covers
it with sand where it is suppose, incubate by the heat of the sun.
What often happens is the eggs are dug out by fisherman and sold
to people who consume them. But now the eggs are bought up by the
conservation projects and hatched the Natural way in enclosed areas
and the Birds don’t have a chance of |
picking
them up. This offers them a better chance of survival. |
