The City Tour will include places of Tourist interest such as Old parliament,
Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Buddhist Hindu Temple

A marshland just of Colombo with urban surroundings. Yellow, Chestnut
(Cinnamon) and Black Bitterns, Watercock, Stork-billed Kingfisher, Blyth’s

DAY 02 : COLOMBO / ANURADHAPURA

Leave for Anuradhapura The first Capital of Sri Lanka founded in the 4th
Centuary B.C.
ANURADHAPURA
City Tour includes, visits to “Isurumuniya”, Sacred Bo-tree,
the Brazen – Palace, Ruwanweliseya, Samadhi Statue, Abyagiriya,
Moonstone Twin Ponds and Jethwanaramaya.
MIHINTALE
Visit the Mihintale. Where Buddhism was officially introduced to a king
of the 3rd century B.C. Today it is very popular with Buddhist pilgrims
and tourist the complex consists of rocks caves ponds and stupas. First
monastery of Sri Lanka and the worlds first declared sanctuary.
Overnight stay at Hotel in Anuradhapura.
DAY 03 : ANURADHAPURA / POLLONNARUWA / SIGIRIYA
Breakfast at Hotel.
Leave for Pollonnaruwa.
POLLONNARUWA
2nd Capital of Sri Lanka, City Tour including visits to the Gal Vihara
with its majestic rock statues of the Buddha in standing, reclining and
seated forms, the Thuparamaya, the princes’ pond, Lankathilaka Viharaya
and the relic houses of Watadageya, Hatadageya and the Atadageya.
Proceed to Sigiriya.
p.m. Bird watching in the groves that surrounds the hotel This consist
of arboreal, terrestrial and aquatic birds including 4 endemic birds namely
Sri Lanka Spur fowl, Sri Lanka Jungle fowl, Sri Lanka Grey Horn-bill,
and Brown-capped Babbler. One can also see many waders and raptors including
Crested Serpent Eagle, white –bellied Sea Eagle, Little and Intermediate
Egrets, Eurasian Open bill and Grey Heron.

DAY 04 : SIGIRIYA

SIGIRIYA ROCK FORTRESS
visit Sigiriya rock and climb the Lion Rock Fortress at Sigiriya which
contains beautiful frescoes of heavenly maidens with flowers and fruit
baskets and a palace garden with an intricate irrigation system - Sigiriya
is the 08th Wonder of the World. This was the Royal Citadel of King Kasyapa
who ruled in the 5th Century A.D.
The rock has the local race of peregrine and the surrounding scrub jungle
has many species of Cuckoos and Weavers.
Sigiriya is one of the best places in the country to see Shaheen Falcon.
Among the other birds in the area are Emerald Dove, Orange-breasted Green
Pigeon, Racket-tailed Drongo, Black-headed Bulbul, Brown-capped Babbler
and Wooly-necked Stork.

DAY 05 : SIGIRIYA / KANDY
Leave for Kandy.
CAVE TEMPLE
En route visit the Cave Temples of Dambulla, which contains more than
150 Statues of the Buddha. This was where a king of the 1st Century B.C.
took refuge and latter converted them into a monastery.
SPICE GARDEN
Next visit a spice garden at matale which grows spices and herbs used
in Sri Lankan cuisine and medication. Spices of Sri Lanka attracted the
early sea faring merchants who made the long voyages since it was precious
merchandise.
CULTURAL DANCE
Evening enjoy a typical Sri Lankan Cultural Show of Drumming Dancing music
and fire walking.
Sight seeing of kandy including Upper Lake Drive and visit to Art and
Craft Centres and Gem Bureau.
TEMPLE OF THE TOOTH RELIC
Visit the Temple of the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha. This temple,
the most important one for The Sri Lankan Buddhists was built in the 16th
Century A.D. solely for the purpose of housing the tooth relic.

DAY 06 : KANDY
Breakfast at Hotel.
Visit Udawatte Kele.
UDAWATTE KELE SANCTUARY.
This is a trek of rainforest rich in species that has enjoyed protection
from historical times. It supports many species of bird life. Some of
the common birds are Layard’s Parakeet, Gold-fronted and Blue-winged
Leafbirds, Spotted and Emerald Doves, Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher,
Yellow-fronted, Crimson-fronted and Brown-headed barbets and Oriental
Dwarf Kingfisher.
BOTANCAL GARDEN
Next visit the Botanical Garden Peradeniya. Which was a pleasure garden
of a Kandyan King of the 16th Century and later made in to a Botanical
Garden during the British regime.
This botanical garden was first built as a pleasure garden by a Sinhala
king and was expanded by the British. It is 147 acres in extent and provides
an amazing variety of trees, plants and flowers. The diversity of trees
creates diverse habitats for many species of birds such as Hill Mynah,
Tickell’s Blue flycatcher, Magpie robin, black-headed Oriole and
endemic Sri Lanka Hanging parrot and Layard’s Parakeet.

DAY 07 : KANDY / NUWARA ELIYA.
After Breakfast Leave for Elephant Orphanage Pinnawala.
ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE
Pinnawala, Visit the Elephant Orphanage, the foster – home of elephants
of different age and size feeding, bathing, playing together and even
mating. These have been found injured or left abandoned in the wilderness.
There are even little baby calves born in captivity.
Nuwara Eliya, the misty city is located over 6000 feet above sea level.
The drive will be through refreshing Tea Plantations covering the hills
like carpets and cascading waterfalls to mesmerize you.
Visit a Tea Plantation and a Tea Factory en route. Sri Lanka being famous
for its “Ceylon Tea” adding cheer to many the world over for
more than a century.
Arrive in Nuwara Eliya to be greeted by the fresh wintry atmosphere, the
cottage type bungalows and the colonial air. ( Nuwara Eliya is also known
as “Little England”)
VICTORIA PARK
An ornamental park in the heart of town that has gained a reputation for
birds.
Eurasian Blackbird, Indian Blue robin, Pied thrush and Grey Tit are commonly
seen.

DAY 08 : NUWARA ELIYA / HORTAN PLAINS
Breakfast at Hotel.
HORTON PLAINS NATIONAL PARK.
Visit Horton plains, which is located on a high windswept saddle at about
2134 meters above sea level. The plains are an expanse of misty grassland
with scraggy trees and ice-cold rivulets. This area is a home for Sri
Lanka Whistling Thrush, Orange-billed Babbler, Yellow-eared Bulbul, black-throated
Munia and many more birds.
If you like to enjoy the beauty of the area you can visit the 'World's
End', considered to be the finest view in all of Sri Lanka. The awesome
escarpment drops vertically for about 4,000 feet, hence its name. You
can also see the beautiful Backer’s falls.
HAKGALA BOTANICAL GARDENS.
Hakgala Botanical Gardens which was home for many highland bird species.
This garden was expanded during the British period and has a wide variety
of flowers, including an excellent collection of orchids.

DAY 09 : NUWARA ELIYA / KITHULGALA

Leave for Kithulgala.
Check in at Rafters Retraet. – Kithulgala.
P.m. corss the Kelani river by canoe an enter “Bandara Kele”
a remanent of the virgin forest.
KITHULGALA.
A rain forest across the Kelani River from Kithulgala resthouse, east
of Colombo. At the foot of the central mountain massif, this is the area
of higest rainfall in Sri Lanka. Mountain and rufous-bellied Hawk-Eagles,
Besra Sparrowhawk, Crested Goshawk, Pompadour Green Pigeon, Ceylon Frogmouth,
Ceylon(Malabar) Trogon, Ediblr-nest Swift(Indian Swiftler), Three-toed
(Oriental Dwarf) and stork-billed Kingfishers, Lesser Yellow-naped Woodpecker,
Indian Blue Chat(Robin), Green and Largo-billed Leaf Warblers, Layard’s
(Brown-breasted) Flycatcher, Paradise Flycatcher, Indian Scimitar Babbler,
Gold- fronted Chloropsis(Leafbird), Ceylon Crested Drongo.

DAY 10 : KITHULGALA / RATHNAPURA

SINHARAJA FOREST.
A large rain forest south of Rathnapura, one of the best remaining in
the Island. Black Eagle, Mountain and Rufous-bellied Hawk-Eagles, Besra
Sparrowhawk, Krested Goshawk, Pompadour Green Pigeon, Indian Cuckoo, Red
winged Crested (Chestnut-winged) Chuckoo, Ceylon frogmouth, Ceylon (Malabar)
Trogon, Brown –throated Spinetail Swift (Brown –backed Needletail),
Edible-nest Swift(Indian Swiftlet), Lesser Yellow-naped Woodpecker, Indian
Blue Chat(Robin), Green and Large-billed Leaf Warblers, Scaly thrush,
Layard’s (Brown-breasted)Flycatcher, Paradise Flycatcher, Indian
Scimitar Babbler, Gold – fronted Chloropsis (Leafbird), Ceylon Crested
Drongo. Among other animals, vry likely to be seen here are the endemic
Purple-faced Leaf Monkey and the Giant Squirrel.

DAY 12 : EMBILIPITIYA / TISSA

UDAWALAWE NATIONAL PARK.
A mix of habitats in the dry zone:grassland, scrubland, tall forest and
water-associated. South of the hill zone, near Embilipitiya. Spotbilled
Pelican, Lesse Adjutant and other water Birds, Grey –headed Fishing
Eagle and other raptors, Yellow-wattled Lapwing, Blossomheaded (Plum-headed)parakeet,
Blue-faced Malkoha, Sirkeer(Malkoha), Indian Plaintive (Grey-bellied)
Chckoo, Brown Fish owl, Crested Tree Swift, MALABAR pied Hornbill, Forest
Wagtail, Blyth’s pipit, Yellow-fronted Pied(Yellow-crowned) Woodpecker,
Indian Pitta, Yellow-eyed Babbler, Large (Jungle) Prinia. The Park is
especially good for Indian Elephant.
Leave for Tissmaharamaya.

TISSAMAHARAMAYA.
Five large tanks (reservoirs) around Tissamaharamaya in the south –
east. With paddy fields and urban surroundings. Yellow, Chestnut (Cinnamon)
and Black Bitterns, Cotton Teal (Pygmy-goose), Pheasant- tailed Jacana,
Watercock and many other water birds, Blue faced Malkoha, Brown Fish Owl,
Stork billed Kingfisher, Black – backed Yellow (White napped) Woodpecker,
Clamorous reed Warbler.

DAY 13 : TISSA / BENTOTA
Leave for Bentota. En route site seing of Galle and Visit Turtle Hatchery.
Galle - An ancient city
which is now a modern and buzzing town today. It was the most important
sea port way back in history, where the sea faring merchants arrived to
trade and barter. This is also where the Portuguese first set foot in
the year 1505 and built a fortress, Which was later captured and fortified
by the Dutch. The fortress is one of the best preserved in the island.
A visit to the fortress and to watch the sunset from the rampart is an
experience unforgettable.
The oldest Protestant church in the country called the ‘Groote Kirk’
built by the Dutch is located inside the Fort. It is situated close to
New Oriental Hotel also built by them as the Governor’s Residence
in 1684
